Denise Jones’s life story is filled with drug abuse, addition, domestic abuse, incest and incarceration.

Jones’s play “Beyond the Door” is her effort to inspire hope and change in others who have endured similar experiences. Written and produced by Jones, the play “Beyond the Door” debuts Sept. 13 and runs through Sept. 15 at the Beverly Arts Center in Chicago.

“I wrote this play to show that you don’t have to remain bound by your past,” Jones said in a press release.

Jones owns Diamond 7 Enterprises, a professional janitorial firm based in Hammond. Jones started the company to provide work opportunities for formerly incarcerated individuals.

The play includes a multi-talented cast directed by E. Faye Butler. Felicia Fields served as artistic consultant.

Jones is the writer and producer of “A Diamond From The Rough” stage play in 2019. She is the author of “Who Said It Couldn’t Be Done,” which was published in English and Spanish. Jones is working on her second book, “The Prison In Me, Break Free.”

Jones has been featured as a guest by Washington Post journalist Patrice Gaines on the Oprah Winfrey Show. She has been interviewed by various media outlets.

Jones is also an advocate for Tender Touch Inc. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to supporting women and girls in their pursuit of drug-free lives after leaving correctional facilities.
