Long John Silver’s confirmed the closure of its location on North Calumet Avenue in Valparaiso.
The company said in a press release that the closure, effective Aug. 11, was a “strategic decision” as it “continues to evaluate its national footprint and plans for the future.”
The location at 2805 N. Calumet Ave. opened in 1978.
“While closing a restaurant is never an easy decision, Long John Silver’s is thankful for the guests and crew members who sailed with the restaurant over the years,” the release said.
The first restaurant opened in 1969 in Lexington, Kentucky, and grew to 1,000-plus locations between 1970 and 1979. It was purchased by YUM! in the early 2000s and a group of franchisees bought it in 2011, according to the Long John Silver's website.
