Franciscan Health Dyer and Franciscan Health Olympia Fields were both recently named Bariatric Centers of Excellence by Optum.
Bariatric departments on Optum’s bariatric centers of excellence list perform more successful bariatric procedures than many nearby facilities. They also have fewer complications and readmissions. Departments on Optum’s list have lower mortality rates, reoperation rates and average costs per surgery.
Bariatric services are increasing in the U.S. Obesity affects more than a third of Americans. Optum annually reviews and recertifies each bariatric program.
Optum is a health care company that delivers medical care and provides pharmacy and technology services. It is a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group. Based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Optum was founded in 2011.
Mishawaka-based Franciscan Health operates a 12-hospital health system. The system includes clinics, home health services and doctors. Franciscan Health serves Indiana and Illinois.
