U.S. Steel issues 3rd annual DEI report

Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corp. issued its annual diversity, equity and inclusion report, highlighting progress, milestones and plans.

The report details the initiatives U.S. Steel launched in 2023. The company’s “Your Voice: One U. S. Steel” survey solicited employee input, tracked sentiment and provided a forum for discussion. U. S. Steel also launched their “Advancing Women in Steel” development program to increase the number of women in senior manager-and-above positions.

“Driven by the firm conviction that diversity, equity and inclusion enhance our ability to provide better solutions for each other and our stakeholders, while also strengthening our business, DE&I remains a key component of U.S. Steel’s corporate strategy,” said Mona Dine, chief diversity officer and general manager, corporate human resources, in a press release.

According to U.S. Steel, the company believes that a diverse, talented and engaged workforce performing at high levels in inclusive, collaborative workplaces is key to achieving its broader goals.

“Recruiting, hiring and promoting a diverse, inclusive workforce is critical to driving business outcomes that best serve our employees, customers and communities,” said Mike Williams, vice president and chief human resources officer.

U.S. Steel Corp. was founded in 1901. The company produces steel for the automotive, construction, appliance, energy, containers and packaging industries. U.S. Steel has an annual raw steelmaking capability of 22.4 million net tons. The company has operations across the U.S. and in Central Europe, including Gary and East Chicago.
