Michigan City leaders are requesting proposals for a mixed-use development project in the heart of the city.
City officials want to develop 8 acres owned by the city at Fifth and Pine streets. The goal is to cultivate housing, retail and downtown experiences, and add a new grocery store.
“The Fifth and Pine site is an important link between the Franklin Street Historic Commercial Corridor, the Uptown Arts District, Trail Creek and future waterfront redevelopment and the Blue Chip Casino, Hotel & Spa,” said Angie Nelson Deuitch, Michigan City mayor, in a press release. “The redevelopment site is also within walking distance of the new 11th Street Station, bringing enhanced rail service, transit-oriented development, tourism and connectivity to Chicago and the Northwest Indiana Region.”
The city is hosting a developer pre-proposal session May 14. Potential developers will be able to tour the site area and receive details on the request for proposals. Learn more about proposals and the developer session here.
“Leveraging the momentum of the recent investment of $450 million in private and public dollars in Michigan City and prime adjacency to downtown’s biggest assets and anchors, this property is a truly unique opportunity to enhance the resident, visitor and investor experience,” Nelson Deuitch said.
