Mishawaka-based Franciscan Health recently announced the hiring of a CFO and vice president of medical affairs.
Justin Kats is the new chief financial officer for Franciscan Health Crown Point and Franciscan Health Michigan City. Dr. Ryan Misek is the new vice president of medical affairs for Franciscan Health Crown Point. Both assumed their new roles in early April.
Kats previously served as the executive director/system controller for UChicago Medicine for 10 years. Prior to his position with UChicago Medicine, Kats worked as a manager for audit services for Crowe Horwath.
“I am excited to join Franciscan Alliance, its mission and the wonderful individuals that serve their community and each other,” Kats said in a press release. “I am looking forward to engaging with the leadership teams in Crown Point and Michigan City as they seek to provide high-quality care impacting lives across the broader region.”
Kats earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Trinity Christian College and an MBA from Purdue University Calumet. He is a certified public accountant and chartered global management accountant. Kats is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Misek is an emergency medicine physician. He joined the medical staff at Franciscan Health Crown Point in 2015. Misek has served as vice president of medical staff, department of medicine chairman and medical director of the emergency department.
Misek earned a bachelor’s degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and a Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has served as the emergency medicine course director at Midwestern University since 2017. Misek also is a faculty member of the Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Emergency Medicine Residency Program.
“Ryan is a well-respected member of our medical staff and has been emergency room medical director, a member of our medical staff leadership and our Ethics Committee over the past few years,” Franciscan Health Crown Point President and CEO Dr. Daniel McCormick said. “I am looking forward to him joining the leadership team and applying his talents and clinical skills for the betterment of all patients and families at Franciscan Health Crown Point.”
Franciscan Health is a 12-hospital health system with locations in Indiana and Illinois. Franciscan Health was founded by a group of Catholic Sisters from Olpe, Germany. They opened the system’s first hospital, now Franciscan Health Lafayette, in 1875.
