Gary-based Beyond 4 Walls Christian Center is sowing seeds of economic development.

The church is working to fill the Harvest Square Strip Mall with small businesses. Blast Laundromat, the latest business to join the mall, opened its doors Feb. 20.

“The opening of this laundromat in this section of the city fills several voids,” said Maurice White, pastor of Beyond 4 Walls, in a press release. “It offers residents a new, clean facility to do their laundry, and it also provides jobs so that employees can support their families.”

Harvest Square Strip Mall is a 12,000-square-foot mall on Lake Street in Gary. The mall is part of the Beyond 4 Walls Christian Center’s ministry in the community. The church broke ground on the mall in May 2021. The mall contains eight stores, including Beggars Pizza and Chicagoland Popcorn. Wrap City & Harold’s Chicken Shack plans to open the first week in March. Jerk N Go, Top of the Morning and Shugga Shack have plans to open soon.

Blast Laundromat at 877 S. Lake St. is open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the last load started by 8 p.m. For more information, call 219-455-6648.

Beyond 4 Walls Christian Center is a non-denominational church. The church was organized in 2009. Beyond 4 Walls calls itself a “seven-day-a-week church with a seven-day-a-week pastor.”
