The Northwest Indiana Mason Contractors Association is offering a free continuing education program Feb. 23.

The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Construction Advancement Foundation’s facility in Portage. Breakfast and lunch are included.

The program will provide information about masonry materials, movement characteristics of masonry wall systems, best practices for moisture control and an introduction to air and water-resistive barriers. The program also includes a hands-on activity about masonry basics.

The NWIMCA encourages architects and designers, engineers, contractors, specification writers and construction managers to attend. The program will meet the Architects International Association continuing education guidelines. AIA members who attend can receive up to five health, safety and welfare learning units.

More information about attending or sponsoring the program is available on the NWIMCA’s website.

The Northwest Indiana Mason Contractors Association promotes masonry skill development by fostering relationships between labor unions, apprenticeship training institutions, contractors and industry groups. The organization works with journeymen training programs to provide opportunities for apprentices to develop their skills. The group also offers networking opportunities and provides special programming and events.
