The Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority is considering sites for a new convention center in Lake County.

A feasibility analysis of the potential convention center was published in 2018 by Convention, Sports & Leisure.

The RDA is partnering with Johnson Consulting and Winston/Terrell Group. They are in the process of updating the study.

The original sites for the convention center included:

  • I-94 and U.S. 41 in Hammond
  • Kennedy Ave. and I-94 in Hammond
  • I-90 and U.S. 12 in Hammond
  • Majestic Star in Gary
  • Century Mall in Merrillville
  • Radisson/Star Plaza in Merrillville
  • Crown Point I-65 in Crown Point
  • Gary IU Northwest in Gary
  • Hobart Silverstone in Hobart

The study update will consider other locations. The RDA’s call for potential convention sites asks landowners in Lake County if they own any sites that they would like to be considered as part of the project.

Sites must meet the following criteria:

  • Completely located within Lake County
  • At least 10 acres of contiguous land
  • Owner(s) of land must be identified

Anyone interested in submitting a site for consideration should email jfleming@chjc.com. The email should include contact information and the site’s address, size in acres, ownership and key attributes.

Site submissions are open until Jan. 30.

The Merrillville-based Northwest Indiana RDA is an economic development agency. The agency works to improve the infrastructure of the Region. They partner with local government and other public entities.
