Clyde Scott has taken pictures at fashion events all over the world during his 25 years as a photographer. But since moving to Gary 15 years ago, he says the Region could use a good dose of fashion sense.
“This Region really suffers from being sheltered from the fashion industry,” he said in a phone interview.
He plans to start changing that when his company, Focused on Fashion, presents the Pressure on the Runway fashion show Jan. 20 on the Mainstage Theater at Indiana University Northwest in Gary.
Hosted by actress and model Paradise Blu, the show will feature fashion models from around the world.
“One thing has always stood out to me in the Northwest Indiana fashion scene. We need diversity! In my travels to larger metropolitan areas, I have had the honor of capturing unique, breathtaking designs on the runway,” said Scott, founder of Focused on Fashion, in a press release. “From cultural pieces to editorial concepts, there are brilliant minds creating stunning works of art that Northwest Indiana has been unfortunately sheltered from. Focused on Fashion is here to change that.”
Scott said he suffered a stroke three years ago and was told he would never pick up a camera again. He proved them wrong.
“I was propelled to embrace change, take risks, and challenge the status quo,” he said. “This newfound outlook not only changed my photography, but also helped me realize how I want to give back to my community.”
With that mindset in mind, the show is also dedicated to raising awareness about strokes and their impact on lives. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Stroke Association.
The show promises displays of fashion ranging from avant-garde couture to street-style chic. The evening will also feature live performances and music provided by DJ K Ceaser and DJ All Owt.
The Pressure on the Runway show starts at 3 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. The Mainstage Theater is at 3415 Broadway in Gary. Tickets are available here.
