Marion Collins became the Gary-based Crisis Center's new executive director Nov. 28.
“We are thrilled to welcome Marion Collins as our new executive director,” said Gary Johnson, board president, in a press release. “Her outstanding leadership and expertise will be invaluable in guiding the Crisis Center through its next phase of growth and development.”
Collins has a wealth of experience in the nonprofit sector and a history of organizational leadership. She joined the Crisis Center in August 2022 as the crisis contact program director for the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. She helped establish one of Indiana's most successful 988 call centers.
Collins earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a MBA.
Collins replaces Nikki Wieglos, who served as executive director since 2020. Wieglos played a key role in the Crisis Center’s growth.
Collins expressed excitement about this opportunity to advance the center's mission.
“I am looking forward to continuing work on our mission of opening a path of hope for lives in crisis,” she said. “Together, we will build upon our strong foundation, capitalize on new opportunities and continue to chart a path of success.”
The Crisis Center has served as a multi-service child welfare agency for over 50 years. The organization is licensed by the Department of Child Services as a Residential Child Caring Institution and National Safe Place.
The center's programs include the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. They serve as one of Indiana's four regional call centers, and provide residential and emergency shelter programs.
