Valparaiso University's dean of the College of Engineering is the new president of the American Society for Engineering Education.
Doug Tougaw has been a member of the organization since 1997. He has served in various leadership roles.
“I would like to unify the many opportunities ASEE has to make them more cohesive,” Dean Tougaw said in a press release. “I also want to add new opportunities, because we have new faculty who join every year, some of whom don’t have mentors, and ASEE is perfectly positioned to provide those mentors.”
The organization hosts several conferences throughout the year.
“We have to find ways to respond to that environment,” Tougaw said. “For example, how do we implement artificial intelligence into our courses in a way that’s beneficial, rather than forbidding it or staying unaware of it?”
American Society for Engineering Education recognized Valparaiso University's College of Engineering for its program diversity in 2022.
Tougaw graduated from the university in 2005 with an MBA and a doctorate and is a professional engineer.
