Merrillville-based Centier Bank earned No. 57 on Forbes' new list of America's Best Small Employers.

The bank, which was founded in 1895, has locations in Allen, Boone, Elkhart, Hamilton, Lake, La Porte, Marion, Marshall, Porter, St. Joseph and Tippecanoe counties. It has 939 employees.

The private, family-owned bank is committed to staying that way. CEO Michael Schrage's son-in-law Chris Campbell, who was recently named president, will lead the family's fifth generation at the bank.

Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to determine the list. They used anonymous employee surveys, tracked job websites and monitored social media to identify 10,000 businesses, from which the 300 scored the highest.

Centier Bank also was listed on the Forbes 2023 Best-In-State Banks.

Goshen College, a small liberal arts school, was listed No. 166.

The list includes 300 employers. Businesses on the list have between 200 and 1,000 employees.
