The U.S. Census Bureau released new 2021 estimates that showed more people moved from Illinois to Indiana than between other Midwestern states.

State-to-state moves overall in 2021 eclipsed those in 2019. The bureau said in an overview that almost 7.9 million people in the U.S. moved between states in 2021, an increase of almost 7.4 million from 2019.

The report estimated that 37,764 people moved from Illinois to Indiana in 2021.

Those numbers reflect an overall consensus by Northwest Indiana experts who say they have seen an uptick in interest from Illinois residents about moving to the Region.

The numbers were reported based on data from the American Community Survey, which asked those who responded if they moved in the last year.
