Several Northwest Indiana towns are on WalletHub's 2023 list of best small cities to start a business.
The personal finance website said it used 18 key metrics to determine the business friendliness of more than 1,300 small cities in the U.S. The metrics used to determine the list included business environment, access to resources and business costs. Cities analyzed were between 25,000 and 100,000 residents.
The rankings were determined by using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., AreaVibes, Yelp, Indeed, Tax Foundation, LoopNet and WalletHub.
Northwest and Central Indiana towns listed are:
- No. 102 — Goshen
- No. 139 — Elkhart
- No. 217 — Valparaiso
- No. 230 — East Chicago
- No. 324 — Crown Point
- No. 394 — Mishawaka
- No. 403 — Hammond
- No. 421 — Gary
