HAMMOND – Regional Development Authority officials, along with representatives of Hammond and Whiting, recently dedicated the opening of a new pedestrian bridge connecting the two communities.

The George Lake Pedestrian Bridge goes over Indianapolis Boulevard. The $4 million project joins the lakefront trails in Hammond and Whiting and is part of the Marquette Plan’s vision of a network of trails running the length of the Lake Michigan shoreline.

“While the project itself is smaller than many of the other projects we have done, it is deeply symbolic of our approach,” said Bill Hanna, CEO of the RDA. “We are the Regional Development Authority, and I have found that when the region comes together and takes action together, there is nothing it can’t accomplish.”
