GARY – Indiana University Northwest has announced the appointment of Patricia Nowak as campus chief of police. The appointment is effective July 2.
Nowak is the first female police chief in the Indiana University system. She will be responsible for 12 officers and a team of several dispatchers.
As head of the IU Northwest Police Department, Nowak will provide direction and oversight for all campus enforcement functions. She will serve on various university, local and state law enforcement committees and serve as a liaison between the campus department and local municipal agencies and courts.
Nowak has 30 years of experience in law enforcement with the East Lansing, Mich., police department. She also spent four years as facilitator/instructor for Michigan State University’s Executive Law Enforcement Staff and Command.
