WHITING – Justin Huisman has been named manager of the Northwest Indiana Oilmen. The team will begin its inaugural season in the Midwest Collegiate League this summer.

Huisman is a former pitcher for the Kansas City Royals and is a graduate of Purdue University Calumet. He began his collegiate career at the University of Mississippi and in 2000 was drafted by the Colorado Rockies.

He was traded to the Royals in 2004 and since ending his professional baseball career, has coached at Concordia University in Chicago and is now head coach at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Ill.

“We feel very fortunate to have a baseball professional with the credentials of Justin Huisman leading the Oilmen in this first season,” said team president and owner Don Popravak. “He brings a wealth of baseball knowledge to the table and also understands the importance the Oilmen will play in the many communities of Northwest Indiana.”
