MICHIGAN CITY – Winn Machine and MCTD Inc. of Michigan City has been named Team Innovator of the Month by The Society of Innovators of Northwest Indiana.

The two companies have developed a mobile “green” solar-powered generator designed to operate equipment in disaster zones as well as construction sites in domestic and world markets.

The generator features 18 panels that tilt skywards on an adjustable axis, catching the sun to power 24 batteries and inverters that turn DC into AC power for operations from running machinery to lighting homes.

Winn and MCTD are the exclusive builders of the solar-powered generators for SolaRover of Lonetree, Colo.

In late 2010, Winn Machine, a production machine shop owned by Damon and Dina Gasaway, formed a partnership with MCTD, a custom design and engineering machine shop owned by Tim Johnson. They have invested more than $100,000 in time, labor and materials in high tech production models for solar generation.

The companies were nominated by John Regetz, executive director of Michigan City Economic Development Corp.
