American Airlines and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection are this year’s recipients of South Bend International Airport’s Partner of the Year Award.

The award is presented to businesses or organizations who do business at the airport and have made contributions toward the airport’s success. This year’s honorees were recognized during the Feb. 27 meeting of the St. Joseph County Airport Authority Board.

“The commitment these two organizations have displayed in enhancing our region’s connectivity is commendable,” said Mike Daigle, CEO and executive director of South Bend International Airport. “Anytime there is an enhancement in our ability to serve the traveling public and community, recognition needs to be given.”

American Airlines completed its first year of service in South Bend in 2019, serving 152,000 passengers, with daily nonstop service to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Airport representatives said U.S. Customs and Border Protection demonstrated collaboration and partnership when federal, state, and local officials marked the opening of the airport’s federal inspection station with the arrival of the Liverpool Football Club nonstop from Manchester, England in July.

The opening of Indiana’s first global entry enrollment center surpassed expectations, airport representatives said.
