New York/Newark is the latest seasonal travel destination added at South Bend International Airport.

United Airlines, one of four passenger carriers serving the South Bend airport, now is offering two daily flights from South Bend to New York/Newark Liberty International Airport, according to a statement from the airport. These additional flights through United are available through Dec. 3.

United also is offering flights from South Bend to coincide with the University of Notre Dame 2019 football schedule. Direct flights from South Bend will be available for Notre Dame’s games against the University of Georgia Sept. 21; University of Southern California Oct. 12 and Duke University on Nov. 9.

“As more and more travelers are choosing to fly local through SBN, we are thrilled United Airlines is returning their seasonal service from Newark Airport and has added special flights for football season,” said Mike Daigle, SBN’s executive director. “Through the end of the year, United has nearly 9% more flights in and out of South Bend year over year, which equates to more than 9100 additional seats compared to 2018.”

United’s announcement follows Allegiant Air’s addition of a seasonal non-stop service from South Bend to Sarasota, Fla. Allegiant’s new seasonal route begins Nov. 25 and continues through early spring.

South Bend International Airport’s other carriers include American Airlines, Delta and Allegiant Air. A total of 368,877 passengers boarded flights at the South Bend International Airport in 2018, up from the 2017 total of 305,491.
