Tour de LaPorte set for this weekend

LAPORTE – LaPorte Hospital Foundation will hold its 10th annual Tour de LaPorte Bike, Run and Walk on Aug. 27-28.

A 10K run, half marathon and mini Tour de LaPorte will be at Soldier’s Memorial Park in LaPorte on Saturday, Aug. 27. That same day, the bike time trial will be held at Rolling Prairie Elementary School.

The course will be blocked by a moving barricade that will open up to traffic once the last runner has passed. Tentative road opening times are as follows: 8:45 a.m. Waverly Road and Orr Lake Road; 9 a.m. Garden Street; 9:15 a.m. North Goldring Road and part of West Small Road; 9:30 a.m. Goldring Road and Weller Avenue; 9:45 a.m. West County Road 150 North; 10 a.m. North County Road 500 West; 10:45 a.m. Small Road; 11 a.m. Lake Shore Drive; and 11:15 a.m. the streets bordering Stone Lake Beach

On Sunday, Aug. 28, the cycling event will be held at the LaPorte County Fairgrounds.

Proceeds benefit local patients with cancer in need of financial assistance. Last year, the event raised more than $40,000. More than 1,000 people took part.

Saturday registration for the running events is 6 a.m. and closes 15 minutes before the start of each race. The half marathon begins at 7 a.m., the 10K at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K at 7:45 a.m. The Mini Tour Fun Run for children 4 to 8 begins at 9:30 a.m.

Cyclists can check in at the fairgrounds from 6 to 10 a.m. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided by Al’s Supermarkets.
