PORTER – Indiana Dunes State Park along with Porter Police and Indiana Dunes Tourism have issued a traffic alert for visitors to the park over this July 4 holiday.
Backups at the entrance to the park are likely, said Brandt Baughman, park manager. Peak hours to enter the park are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Baughman said visitors should plan to arrive early in the morning or wait until 3 p.m., which is when traffic usually clears up.
Visitors can also speed entrance by paying entry fees with cash rather than a credit card.
Porter Police Chief James Spanier said the best policy for visitors is to “stay patient and expect delays.”
