Cindy Cavanaugh has been named by Goodwill LEADS Inc. as vice president for The Excel Centers.

Cavanaugh previously served as director of the Hammond Excel Center. Her background includes nine years with the School City of Hammond, serving as interim dean of students. Cavanaugh will manage the educational goals and vision for Excel Center sites in South Bend, Hammond and the new Gary site opening in September.

“My experience, passion and commitment are the foundational tenets that have created a vision for The Excel Centers,” Cavanaugh said. “Students who were once reluctant learners obtain mastery of a subject they struggled with; moms who dropped out of high school graduate work force ready; and students who were bullied find a safe place to learn. I have seen the need for this type of school first hand, and am looking forward to welcoming adult students into a place where they can – and will – be successful.”

The Excel Center is a free, public high school serving students 18 and older with year-round accelerated classes.
