MISHAWAKA – Dr. Rafat Ansari, President of Michiana Hematology Oncology Advanced Centers for Cancer Care, announced today that Kim Woofter, Michiana Hematology Oncology’s Chief Operating Officer for nearly 20 years, will transition to a new role at Advanced Centers for Cancer Care (AC3), an oncology practice management and data analytics company based in downtown South Bend.
As the Executive Vice President of Strategic Alliances and Practice Innovation, Woofter will be responsible for expanding the cancer center’s footprint across the United States, as well as exploring international opportunities for expansion. She will also be involved in the development of AC3’s analytics platform, a program to aid in lowering the cost of cancer care over the long-term.
“Kim has been integral to our organization; a critical part of our foundation as we’ve grown from a local team of oncology doctors to a much larger, regional and more research-based organization,” Ansari said. “As we develop AC3, we’ll need her expertise and vision to lead our team. She’s truly gifted in the way she’s able to speak to the medical and business sides of our industry, yet she does so by keeping the end-user in mind—the patient who is fighting cancer.”
Woofter is a certified oncology nurse and has been with Michiana Hematology Oncology since 1996.
Dr. Ansari has also announced that Jennifer Ewing has been promoted to Clinical Operations Officer (COO). Reporting directly to Dr. Ansari, Ewing will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the company’s clinical operations.
Ewing is an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (one of only 600 in the United States) with 20 years of experience in oncology care; 10 of which were spent as a chemotherapy infusion nurse.
A long-time Michiana resident, Ewing has a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Saint Mary's College and a Master of Science in nursing from Ball State University. She is active in the community, serving on the Board of Directors for the Center for Hospice Care. She is also an associate editor for the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing.
“Jen’s skills, experience and commitment to quality, comprehensive, holistic, oncology patient care make her uniquely suited for the role of COO,” Dr. Ansari said. “We’re excited that she has accepted this position and know that she will contribute much to our practice and our patients.”
