Portage Health Center Expansion

PORTAGE – St. Mary Medical Center has just made healthcare more convenient for Porter County residents with the addition of after-hours immediate care services and a wider variety of physician specialties. The Portage Health Center expansion project brings together two buildings as one complex, located on the corner of U.S. Highway 6 and Arbors Boulevard, across from Portage High School. The public is invited to tour the combined facilities, meet the staff, get free health screenings and enjoy door prizes and refreshments at a community open house from 9 am to 12 pm on Saturday, October 24.

“St. Mary Medical Center serves a significant number of patients from Porter County, particularly from the Portage area,” said Janice Ryba, hospital CEO. “The new Portage Health Centers bring together a full-range of diagnostic and therapeutic health services in a convenient, location for Portage residents. Together with our skilled staff, they are an extension of the high quality, patient-centered medical care available through our hospital.”

Together, the Portage Health Centers I & II feature Immediate Care services, with the support of a full array of advanced imaging (CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound), as well as clinical laboratory services and a hospital-based physical therapy and rehabilitation program. Specialists in family and internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, general, bariatric and orthopedic surgery, cardiology and a variety of medical specialties, round-out the spectrum of services available for patients.

“Our patients will certainly benefit from the convenience of services now offered in this one location,” said B. Chhabra, MD, Family Medicine, who has been caring for patients in Portage and Northwest Indiana, for nearly 30 years. “We are essentially offering them a one-stop-shop for their healthcare needs all in one visit.”

The Portage Health Centers are comprised of two adjacent buildings connected by a structured walkway. Portage Health Center I, located at 6375 U.S. Highway, serves as home to several physician practices, including family medicine, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, gastroenterology, and podiatry. Physician practices within Portage Health Center II, located at 3545 Arbors Boulevard, include OB/Gyn, urology, general and bariatric surgery, and vein care services.

Also located in Portage Health Center II is a new “after-hours” Immediate Care Center, outpatient rehabilitation, advanced imaging, with a 64-slice CT scanner, wide-bore MRI, x-ray and ultrasound. EKG services and outpatient laboratory services also are conveniently located on site.
