Entries Sought for ‘Alien Invasion Epic’ Graphic Novel

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University Galleries and Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette invite entries for “Alien Invasion Epic,” a Living Graphic Novel. The project will be a science fiction tale assembled as a graphic novel from submissions of staged photographs.

Living Graphic Novel is a collaborative arts education program in which participants write, illustrate and appear in short stories through staged and photographed scenes, in the style of graphic novels or comic books. Purdue Galleries has received funding for the project from the National Endowment for the Arts for the past two years. For more on Living Graphic Novel and for suggestions on “alien invasion motifs” common to comics and movies, go to http://living-graphic-novel.com

Submissions will be due by Monday, Sept. 30. Interested participants are invited to send staged photographs depicting scenes from an alien invasion story of their imagining. The order and layout of the larger novel will be determined by the editors, who will use as many submitted images as possible to assemble a multi-faceted story, possibly including stories-within-a-story and other plotting techniques.

Upon completion, the “Alien Invasion Epic” Living Graphic Novel will be printed in large format, and each entrant will receive a copy. The story will also be available for download as a PDF at the Living Graphic Novel website.
