St. Joseph County was narrowed down to one of five finalists from an initial list of 15 sites in the state for consideration for an international industrial development that would involve 250 acres and approximately $100 million in investments. We were not selected as one of the two finalists. The area promoted was the St. Joseph County Development District 2, 5,000 acres by New Carlisle. The selection of the finalists was based on the presence of an established industrial park with utilities already servicing the sites. Also, the competitive parks contained other businesses that were synergistic or potential customers for this operation. The lesson learned was that in order to be more competitive for these larger opportunities, we need to develop a more finished package that already has rights to properties, a layout of potential plots and approved plans on how the utilities would service those plots.
