WHITING – Oil City Stadium will be the home of the Northwest Indiana Oilmen Baseball Club that will begin play in June.
The announcement was made by owners Don Popravak, former White Sox slugger Ron Kittle, and Mayor Joe Stahura.
The Oilmen will be made up of top college players from around the country for their first taste of professional-level wood bat baseball. Collegiate summer baseball is the first step for the majority of baseball players in the minor and major leagues.
“We are extremely proud to bring this tremendous level of quality baseball to Whiting and the entire Northwest Indiana region,” said Popravak. “When I first saw the beautiful ballpark that Whiting built last year, I knew it was the perfect home for this team.”
The Midwest Collegiate League has eight teams. Opening day is June 2.
