South Shore Line revises schedule

A new train schedule will go into effect Feb. 18 for South Shore Line passengers.

The new schedule incorporates service modifications as a result of ongoing passenger feedback and service analysis. The schedule includes revisions to train numbers and weekday and weekend train departure and arrival times.

The board of trustees of the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District met Jan. 27. The NICTD is pushing forward with several major rail projects and infrastructure improvements.

Last year, the board passed a six-year capital spending plan. The plan included about $2 billion in capital improvements. It incorporated the Double Track, West Lake and Metra expansions, ongoing maintenance and the purchase of equipment.

Beyond the large-scale projects, maintaining and upgrading the railroad remains a priority. Over the next decade, NICTD will continue investing in substations to enhance system reliability and capacity. Another major focus is the rehabilitation of rail cars. This restoration program will continue over the next decade.

Additional funding was earmarked for station upgrades, signal system improvements and facility enhancements. The NICTD board also approved contracts for equipment and services.
