The Hammond-based South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority and South Shore Arts have partnered to invite new artists to contribute to the “Just Around the Corner” poster series.
Started in 1997, the “Just Around the Corner” poster series aims to attract visitors to Northwest Indiana and visually tell the Region’s story.
The series continues the legacy of the iconic South Shore posters that appeared in train stations from Chicago to South Bend in the 1920s. These vintage posters showcased the attractions, events and historical landmarks along Lake Michigan's South Shore.
“We take pride in perpetuating the time-honored tradition of the South Shore poster series, which not only showcases the Region's myriad destinations but also celebrates local artistic talent,” said Nikki Lopez, interim president and CEO of SSCVA, in a press release.
The “Just Around the Corner” poster series is actively seeking new artists to keep the series thriving. The SSCVA aims to draw in additional sponsors, leading to increased commissions for artists in the area.
Poster commissions are already waiting to be fulfilled, and sponsors are looking for artists for their projects. Submissions are open until May 1. Interested applicants can find more information here.
South Shore Arts is a nonprofit organization. It grew from the Hammond District Art Association founded in 1936. South Shore Arts works to transform lives and strengthen communities in the Region through art.
