Health care and community leaders gathered to mark the opening of the expanded, remodeled St. Mary Medical Center Outpatient Center in Hobart.
The project added nearly 14,000 square feet to an existing facility adjacent to St. Mary Medical Center.
The building, at 320 W. 61st Ave., consolidates therapy services and occupational health services.
“Consolidating therapy services under one roof in a central location maximizes efficiency and supports patient convenience for outpatient pediatric and adult therapy services and occupational health,” said Janice Ryba, St. Mary Medical Center CEO, in a press release. “This center provides an opportunity for patients to receive therapies, tests and treatments in one location.”
The space features occupational, speech and pediatric therapy and rehabilitation equipment. The Bertec Balance Advantage Computerized Dynamic Posturography system uses an immersive virtual reality experience to improve balance. The ZeroG Gait and Balance System helps patients improve walking and balancing.
Powers Health has experienced an increase in demand for pediatric therapy. The expansion will help the health care system meet that demand. Pediatric therapy offered on-site include sensory integration, life skills training, fine and gross motor development and feeding disorders.
The occupational health side of the building features services that specialize in preventing, treating and managing work-related injuries and illnesses. Services include fit-for-duty evaluations, drug and alcohol screenings, Department of Transportation examinations, police and firefighter exams and work-related injury care.
“This new occupational health site is one of five locations throughout Northwest Indiana,” said John Doherty, therapy services and occupational health vice president. “Powers Health is committed to addressing the health care needs of the people who live and work in our community.”
Powers Health is comprised of Community Hospital, St. Catherine Hospital, St. Mary Medical Center and Powers Health Rehabilitation Center. It was formerly known as Community Healthcare System.
