Franciscan Health is almost ready to move the Crown Point hospital to its new location at 12750 Saint Francis Drive. On Jan. 28, the emergency department will open in the new building.

The former location's emergency department at 1201 S. Main St. will simultaneously close. Patients who will need to be moved have an about 10-minute trip. The two buildings are about 4 miles apart.

That location will then become a division of Franciscan Health Crown Point as the Franciscan Health Main St. Outpatient Center.

Dr. Dan McCormick, president and CEO of Franciscan Health Crown Point, said they are overhauling old-school general hospitals with the new facility.

“The new Crown Point hospital appears to be an updated, smaller version of the classic general hospital, but the facility is not smaller when it comes to patient care and experience,” he said.

“We have less square footage for administrative spaces and invested in significantly upgraded technology and clinical space to better serve the community.”

The new Crown Point hospital cost $200 million. The location is accessible by a roundabout on U.S. 231 east of Interstate 65.
