The Franciscan Alliance will acquire the Franciscan Beacon Hospital in La Porte, pending a closing date of March 1.
The two health systems maintained a joint partnership since 2018 for the hospital at 1010 State Road. The 50-50 agreement included an expansion project.
“We are thrilled to further expand our health care services in La Porte with the acquisition of Franciscan Beacon Hospital,” Franciscan Health Michigan City President and CEO Dean Mazzoni said in a press release. “We thank Beacon Health System for their partnership over these past six years and look forward to welcoming the Beacon Health System employees there as our Franciscan coworkers.”
Beacon Health System hospital employees, including nurses, imaging staff and other support staff will become employed by Mishawaka-based Franciscan Alliance. About 33 employees will be affected.
Staff at the Beacon Medical Group office building that is attached to the hospital will remain Beacon staff members.
“Beacon and Franciscan Health strive to do what is in the best interest for the community and will continue to partner in other ways to provide high-quality health care for the La Porte region,” said Diane Maas, chief strategy and digital growth officer at Beacon Health System. “We are proud of the hospital’s dedicated clinicians and support teams who are continuing to improve patients’ lives and for playing an integral role in bringing this new model of care to Northern Indiana.”
The 92,500-square-foot facility includes a 24-hour, 10-bed emergency department, eight inpatient beds for overnight care, laboratory services, a pharmacist, physical therapy, telehealth, and imaging and diagnostic equipment.
After the closing, a 90-day transition period will complete Franciscan's acquisition.
