The new Destination Hammond YMCA is hosting sneak peek tours and a community open house before its grand opening Nov. 20.

The membership pre-sale has already begun for the $70 million destination YMCA. Construction on the 120,000 square-foot facility broke ground in spring 2023. The new facility, located on the former Woodmar Mall site, will be three times larger than Hammond's current YMCA.

The new YMCA will offer additional experiences for kids to be healthy and active and to explore interests. It will feature additional capacity and classes for kids and families to be safe around water. The facility plans to offer expanded summer day camps and increased programming and services geared toward seniors and addressing chronic disease.

The building will feature three gymnasiums, a family pool area, a fitness center with multiple group exercise studios, a second-floor track and other amenities. The facility will eventually also include an outdoor water park.

The YMCA is planning for the new location to bring 200 jobs to the Region. It expects to serve up to 50,000 people in North Lake County.

The final day at the current Hammond Family YMCA is Nov. 8. The location at 7322 Southeastern will close when the move is completed.

YMCA members will have the opportunity to tour the new location Nov. 11 to Nov. 14. A community open house will take place noon to 7 p.m. Nov. 11.

The Hammond Family YMCA’s opening event will take place 4:45 a.m. Nov. 20 at 6532 Indianapolis Boulevard in Hammond. Learn more here.
