Franciscan Health Rensselaer is offering a free cooking class Oct. 23.
The class, titled “Cooking Matters,” is a collaborative effort between Franciscan Health Rensselaer, Purdue University, Strack & Van Till Food Market and CookingMatters.org.
The class will focus on cooking with healthy and affordable recipes. Presenters will offer ideas for saving time in the kitchen and money on groceries. They will also discuss nutrition tips and options for selective eaters.
Attendees will receive recipes and groceries to take home to prepare a meal. Families with children ages seven and over are welcome to attend.

Mishawaka-based Franciscan Health is a 12-hospital health care system. Franciscan Health has over 850 primary and specialty care providers at over 260 locations in Indiana and Illinois. A group of Catholic Sisters from Germany founded the health care network’s first hospital, Franciscan Health Lafayette, in 1875.
CookingMatters.org provides resources to help parents and caregivers develop their skills when shopping for and cooking healthy foods on a budget. Cooking Matters was a program run for 30 years by Share Our Strength, a nonprofit organization working to eliminate hunger and poverty around the world.
