Michigan City-based Horizon Bank successfully completed their first Cares Day on Nov. 28.

All Horizon Bank locations closed at noon for the event. About 900 advisers from the bank volunteered their time to support 85 organizations throughout Indiana and Michigan. The organizations included Habitat for Humanity, United Way, the Boys and Girls Club and the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana.

“We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm and commitment of our advisers in making Horizon Cares Day a resounding success,” said Thomas Prame, the bank’s CEO, in a press release.

The bank’s advisers provided over 2,600 volunteer hours. The initiatives were aimed at addressing local needs and doing good within communities. The bank is also working to foster a culture of corporate responsibility.

“At Horizon Bank, we believe in the power of community and the positive impact that collective efforts can bring,” Prame said. “Horizon Cares Day exemplifies our commitment to making a meaningful difference in the areas we call home.”

Horizon Bank was founded as a community bank in Michigan City in 1873. In decades to follow, it offered Indiana’s first automobile drive-up and ATM. Horizon Bank has branches in Indiana and Michigan. It is a subsidiary of Horizon Bancorp.
