Tracy Lewis, director of the Community Advocates of Northern Indiana, received the Elizabeth Jackson Legacy Award.

Lewis earned the award, which was created in 2013, for helping black and brown community members in Lake County.

“I am very humbled and honored to work and serve in my community,” said Lewis in a press release. “When you have a passion to see change, you keep going until change is made.”

The annual award was created to honor Elizabeth Jackson, a longtime CANI member and community partner. It honors programs, organizations and individuals.

The Merrillville-based nonprofit serves the community with health and wellness programs.

“At CANI, the overall health of individuals is at the core of our mission,” Lewis said. “Every day, CANI is focused on reducing and eliminating health disparities among residents in Lake and Porter counties.”
