The Duneland Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the recent opening of the Urban Pollinator Project.

The event took place at the Westchester Bird Sanctuary in Chesterton.

“The Westchester Bird Sanctuary is the first location where we have planted these pollinators,” said Scott Palla, founder of the Urban Pollinator Project, in a press release. “It will be the perfect backdrop for this celebration of nature in our community.”

The Urban Pollinator Project is a nonprofit organization. Its mission is to plant pollinators in urban areas for the community's enjoyment. The pollinators, including native wildflowers and grasses, support local wildlife, insects and birds. The goal is to create a thriving natural environment within the town.

The Duneland Chamber of Commerce serves Beverly Shores, Burns Harbor, Chesterton, Dune Acres and Porter. The chamber provides community-building events and educational programming. It promotes economic development in the Duneland area.
