Students from seven Northwest Indiana middle schools recently attended JAChamber Town in Merrillville.

The daylong event focuses on financial education. It is designed to foster financial literacy skills for youth. Chamber members contribute their time and expertise to teach budgeting skills and future financial planning.

The JAChamber Town event is a collaborative effort between Crossroads Chamber of Commerce and Junior Achievement Chicago. Celebrating a decade of partnership, the JAChamber Town event is a cornerstone program for the two organizations.

“This partnership exemplifies the power of community engagement and education, shaping the next generation of informed and prepared youth,” said Roslyn Malouhos, Junior Achievement of Chicago's NWI division director, in a press release. “It's volunteers and local businesses partnering with JA that open up possibilities for students — when our youth succeeds, we all win!”

About 2,000 students representing Gary Middle School, Pierce Middle School, Bailly STEM, Colonel Wheeler Middle School, Taft Middle School, Boone Grove Middle School and Hanover Central Middle School attended the event at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center in Merrillville.

“Our program empowers the next generation with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in an increasingly complex financial landscape,” said Deann Patena, president and CEO of Crossroads. “Our longstanding partnership with Junior Achievement Chicago has allowed us to expand our reach and impact, ultimately shaping the future workforce of Northwest Indiana.”

JAChamber Town is part of Crossroads Chamber’s mission to drive positive change and foster economic prosperity in the Region. The event aims to foster an environment where students can gain insights and mentorship from local industry professionals.

Merrillville-based Crossroads Chamber of Commerce works to promote business and regional growth. The chamber provides networking opportunities and offers community-building events.
