Unemployment rates fell in Northwest Indiana in October, although Lake County had the highest unemployment numbers in the state.
Lake County had the highest jobless rate of Indiana’s 92 counties at 4.7%. That number was down from 4.8% in September, but up from 4.0% in October 2022, according to the most recent numbers from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
La Porte County ranked sixth in the state in joblessness at 3.8% in October. That number was down from 3.9% in September and up from 3.4% in October 2022, according to the Department of Workforce Development.
Starke County was the 10th highest of Indiana’s 92 counties with unemployment remaining at 3.7% in October. Joblessness was also at 3.7% the previous month and at 3.7% at the same time a year ago.
The unemployment rate dropped across the Gary metropolitan area in October. Joblessness fell to 4.3%, according to the Department of Workforce Development. The metropolitan area encompasses Lake, Porter, Jasper and Newton counties.
