The Michigan City Neighborhood Leadership Academy will relaunch on Oct. 3 after being on hold during the pandemic.

The program is a partnership between the city of Michigan City and the Economic Development Corp. Michigan City. It is aimed at individuals interested in taking on leadership roles in their neighborhoods. The goal is to bring neighbors together to spark change.

Participants will learn more about Michigan City and its departments. They will gain knowledge about processes and resources to cultivate their neighborhood’s identity and future path.

“This is a unique opportunity for our residents to really get involved, serve as a neighborhood leader and create changes right outside their own doors,” Michigan City Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch said in a press release.

The program includes eight sessions from Oct. 3 through Nov. 21. The classes will educate participants using the Asset-Based Community Development framework.

“These are interactive, hands-on sessions that will lay the groundwork for creating strong and lively neighborhoods within our community,” said Clarence Hulse, Economic Development Corp. Michigan City executive director.

Leadership academy applications are now being accepted. Applicants must be Michigan City residents ages 18 and older who live within the city limits. Learn more here.
