SCHERERVILLE – The Indiana Assisted Living Association (INALA) recently awarded Melissa Caldwell, a founding Principal of WestShore Senior Living LLC of Valparaiso, IN as their 2017 Leader Under 40. This is the first year that INALA recognized emerging leaders in the senior living industry in Indiana. Selected by her industry peers from nominees from across the State, Melissa’s achievements demonstrate that the future of senior living is in good hands.
Melissa and her colleagues at WestShore currently manage three facilities in Indiana: Residences at Deer Creek in Schererville, IN, Northwoods Village at Edison Lakes in Mishawaka, IN and Northwoods Village at Inverness Lakes in Fort Wayne, IN. Based on service quality and financial performance these communities rank among the best in their respective regions of the State. WestShore currently has under development Northwoods Village in Kalamazoo, MI and Residences at Coffee Creek in Chesterton, IN both set to open in 2018.
Growing-up in Indiana, Melissa began working in the senior living industry while she was still in high school learning the industry from the ground-up. As an undergraduate at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, she interned with a Regional non-profit provider and was exposed to all facets of the senior living industry.
After college Melissa joined a large national developer/manager as a staff Associate and was quickly promoted gaining valuable insights into the growing and rapidly evolving senior living market. Graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with her M.B.A. in Finance and Urban Land Economics, while still in her twenty’s, Melissa became a founding principal of WestShore Senior Living an operator and developer of senior living communities.
INALA recognized Melissa as someone who is hardworking and conceives and implements innovative ideas in her communities to help them better connect with today’s seniors and their families. She is among the few women to own a development and operating company in the senior living industry today. Her dedication, compassion and creative approach to caring for seniors promotes an environment of teamwork and mutual respect for the communities she has worked so diligently to build to operate successfully. Her hands-on approach to community management continues to inspire and set a good example for front-line team members. Her communities have been awarded and recognized not only regionally but nationally as well.
Married to Christopher Caldwell she is most gratified to be the mother of her two-year-old daughter and three-month-old son.
