Visitor Restrictions During Flu Season

Indiana University Health La Porte and Starke Hospitals are urging the public to follow visiting recommendations within the hospitals to help prevent the spread of flu. The state of Indiana is experiencing an increasing number of flu cases, so the hospitals have enacted the visitor recommendations to discourage the spread of flu and keep patients and healthcare workers safe. The temporary policy went into effect Dec. 15 until further notice.

IU Health La Porte and Starke hospitals are allowing only those who are age 18 and older, and healthy, to visit patients in the hospital if necessary. The hospitals ask that only two people visit with a patient at a time, and that parents refrain from bringing children to the hospital as visitors during flu season. Those who are coming to the hospital for treatment, and have flu or cold-like symptoms, should wear a protective mask provided at hospital entrances. It’s important to remember that washing hands frequently, and covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue, are extremely effective in reducing the spread of flu.
