MERRILLVILLE – The 20th annual Indiana Challenge at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza on is Thursday, Feb. 21. The competition is a DanceSport event and is sanctioned by the National Dance Council of America.
Throughout the competition, there will be several special events. On Thursday, there will be a Dancing with the Local Stars competition from 7 to 8 p.m. that will benefit Lake Area United Way. The event will feature local amateurs who have spent eight to 10 weeks learning a dance routine with a local dance instructor. Competitors will perform a variety of dance styles including the foxtrot, tango, mamba and samba.
Local stars include Hobart Mayor Brian Snedecor, Valparaiso High School Principal Reid Amones, Scarborough Faire Catering and Café co-owner Chef Arthur Stark as well as several others.
There will also be an amateur only salsa competition on Saturday, Feb. 23. This event encourages competitors, dancers and audience members to participate. Prizes will be awarded to the last couple selected by the judges.
