Purdue Calumet hosts trip to Cuba

HAMMOND – Purdue University Calumet is organizing an academic trip to Cuba for the spring semester.

The trip is set for May 12 to 21 and will be a for-credit, experiential learning opportunity for students through the university’s International Programs Office.

The trip will include meetings with Cuban urban planners, health professionals, community organizers and educators; tours of colonial Old Havana, the Slavery Museum and the Museum of the Revolution; a hike of the Sierra Maestra mountains where the Cuban Revolution began; a visit to Santiago de Cuba for cultural, historical and musical/dance performances; and a chance to learn the Cuban perspective on economic development and social responsibility.

The cost is $3,875, which covers the tuition, round-trip airfare to Havana, in-country travel, hotel accommodations, two meals per day and program activities.
