PNC to host tour of Washington, D.C.

WESTVILLE – Purdue University North Central students and members of the community will have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., from March 4-9, 2012, as part of a course that explores the city and the topic of citizenship.

The course, “Washington, D.C.: The History, Politics and Culture that Shaped Our Nation,” will be led by Karen Schmid, vice chancellor for academic affairs, and Laura Weaver, service learning coordinator.

Activities include a private meeting with Martha Kanter, under secretary of education, and a private tour of Capitol Hill by U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar’s office. There will be an observation of Congress, lunch in the Senate dining room, tours of the Pentagon, the National Archives, Arlington Cemetery and Mount Vernon. There also will be a tour of the Library of Congress.

For credit students, tuition is $628 plus a course fee of $650; non-credit students will pay the $650 program fee and a $150 administrative fee. The course fee includes five nights in Washington, a suite-style hotel with full kitchen, a metro card, two group meals and continental breakfast.
