Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus, Community Hospital in Munster confirm treating patients with coronavirus

Health CareTwo of Indiana’s latest confirmed COVID-19 cases are being treated at Region hospitals.

In separate statements March 17, Methodist Hospitals said it is treating its first patient at its Southlake Campus in Merrillville who tested positive for the coronavirus. Community Hospital in Munster also reported it is treating its first patient who tested positive.

The two Region cases are among the six newest confirmed in Indiana, according to figures released by the Indiana State Department of Health March 17. Indiana’s reported cases total 30, which includes two deaths.

The latest death was a Johnson County adult over age 60 who had been hospitalized, the state said.

Methodist Hospitals said its coronavirus patient arrived at its Southlake Campus emergency department. The patient was assessed and placed in isolation and now is in stable condition.

Community Hospital in Munster said its COVID-19 patient was screened and assessed upon entry and was found to have a slight fever and respiratory symptoms. The patient was immediately placed in isolation.

The state is following federal guidelines to slow the spread of the coronavirus encouraging initiatives to restrict large social gatherings. Numerous businesses and organizations also are taking precautionary measures including either limiting or restricting public visitations and patronage.
