Jobless rates in the Gary area and Michigan City region fell in July.

Jobless rates in the Gary metropolitan area and Michigan City-La Porte region dropped in July.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics data, reported the Gary area’s jobless rate in July was 4.6 percent, down from June’s rate of 4.7 percent. The Gary area’s jobless rate in July 2017 was 4.8 percent.

In the Michigan City-La Porte area, the jobless rate in July was 4.2 percent, which was down from June’s rate of 4.4 percent. The Michigan City-La Porte area jobless rate in June 2017 was 4.2 percent.

Unemployment rate in the South Bend-Mishawaka metropolitan area for July was 3.9 percent, which as unchanged from June and a drop from July 2017 when the jobless rate was 4 percent.

Indiana’s overall unemployment rate in July was 3.4 percent, which was up from June’s rate of 3.3 percent. The nation’s jobless rate in July was 3.9 percent, which was down from 4 percent in June.
