Jobless rates fall across several Indiana metro areas in November

Unemployment rates in several northern Indiana metro areas fell in November when compared to the prior month.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics data, reported the November jobless rates for the Elkhart-Goshen area, Gary area, Michigan City-La Porte area, and the South Bend-Mishawaka area dropped for the month when compared to October.

In the Gary area, the November jobless rate was 3.2%, down from 3.7% in October, and down from 6.7% in November 2020.

The Elkhart-Goshen area jobless rate in November was 1.4%, down from 1.8% in October, and down from 4.2% in November 2020.

The Michigan City-La Porte area unemployment rate in November was 2.8%, down from 3.4% in October and down from 6.8% in November 2020.

The South Bend-Mishawaka area jobless rate for November was 2.5%, down from 3% in October and down from 5.9% in November 2020.

Indiana’s jobless rate in November was 3%, down from 3.3% in October and down from 5% in November 2020.

Indiana’s November labor force totaled 3,311,883, with 3,242,407 employed and 69,476 unemployed.
